THE PITCH

Recently Paul McCartney, a long-term vegetarian and animal-rights activist, asked the people of Britain to cut down on meat consumption by removing it from their meals on Mondays.

We should do the same.

The effect of the meat industry on the environment and global poverty is extraordinary. The amount of resources it takes to feed animals for future consumption could better be spent feeding people or investing in sustainable methods of farming and agriculture. The carbon emissions created by housing animals in mass-quantities also lead to global warming and environmental degradation.

According to Environmental Defense, if every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetarian foods instead, the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than a half-million cars off U.S. roads.*

Lets make a pledge to eat only vegetarian foods on Mondays and encourage other people to do the same, curbing cli Read More

Many people are not yet aware of the degree each of us contributes to the CO2 emissions load placed on our environment. Cutting back on meat is perhaps the one change everyone could make with little or no trouble and reduce their carbon footprint significantly.

I’m joining because I’m committed to reducing my cf anyhow, and I think it’s a good idea for other people to consider ways to reduce their own as a means of offsetting the ways they haven’t been able to reduce their cf – like air travel and cars.

It’s my belief that we can all do more to offset our carbon footprints – that we should consider ourselves stewards of the environment – and that we demonstrate responsible consumption on every level. This campaign fits neatly with my philosophy.

Hey Everyone:

I have a blog where I document my vegan recipes. This may be a good resource for people who are planning on not eating meat on mondays. It would be even better to try to eat vegan at least one day a week. Check it out! http://thenewvegan.blogspot.com

    Hi Monica,

Cool blog! Thanks. I’m trying to learn to cook better anyway and I’ve found vegan blogs to be some of the best resources for that anywhere.

I’m already vegan, too. I actually think campaigns like this aim too low and reinforce the idea that there’s a difference between exploiting animals for their flesh and exploiting them for their milk and eggs, but I would be pleased if millions of people started eating vegan at least one day a week.

Well, given that most Americans eat meat at least once a day and often see vegetarianism as a daunting task I don’t think this campaign is aiming low at all.

I am already vegan, but I want this to hit the tipping point. I think this is a great idea to education non-vegetarians about the negative effects that the animal agriculture has on the environment. Plus, I really think it’s important to get people to cut down on meat and this is a great opportunity to show people that you don’t need meat and the other options they have. Go Paul!

THE CONSUMPTION of ANIMAL PRODUCTS which involves the rape of other creatures, as man has been taking part in is not appropriate. It is a major misguidance, similar to the issue of HUMAN SLAVERY. For so long individuals are “under the grip” of something that they can not see out of it ~ that is what it seems like is taking place.

Accusing meat eaters of “rape” doesn’t sound like “UNDERSTANDING”…
